Evolution of a
Logo

~ June 17, 2009 By : Curtis Hale ~

I want to just quickly take you through my process on my latest logo design for iWake.com, an online community for wakeboarders.

On this particular project, I started out with some inspiration...the old International Harvester logo, in which an "i" and an "h" are combined into a form resembling a man riding a tractor. So the hard part was already done; I had a concept of an "i" and a "w" creating a rider in between wakes, so it was just a matter of getting the forms right.

I didn't have a lot of time on this project (about a 24-hour turnaround was required) so I began wi...   read more

Needless to say I subscribe to a lot of different online newsletters. Considering the fact that I Stumble! more than I should, I inevitably find many sites that I am interested in. Anyway, I got an email newsletter today from RepowerAmerica.org. I get this every so often, and occasionally check out their new video spots.

I am not a tree hugging, latte drinking(well...), softy. But I do think this group is doing good in an area that I think is pivotal in our nations future. This specific TV spot I though...   read more

    Website Launch:
    Centre

    ~ June 9, 2009 By : Curtis Hale ~

We are proud to announce the launch of Centre’s new website www.gotocentre.com. Centre is a retail shop located at Mockingbird Station here in Dallas. Their store showcases the latest in funky fashion and sneakers, so the site had to reflect their bold style and respect for high design.

It’s so great to work with a client who has their finger so firmly on the pulse of popular culture!

The thing I am probably most excited about with this site is Centre’s dedicatio...   read more

Okay, so it is no secret that the long sickly arms of the recession have affected most every business out there. I personally think many economists are in a state of denial. While I am not willing to drop the "D" word (in public at least), I do find it quite disturbing that, in this day and age, it took a year to "officially" declare a recession.

During times like these, one of the best things you can do is to work on your overall brand.

I can tell you that the ripple effect of the economic downturn has affected The Old State in many ways. ...   read more

      Saul
      Kicks Bass

      ~ June 5, 2009 By : Curtis Hale ~

Ithought it might be nice to write a series of blogs about the designers that have inspired and influenced me the most, with the hope that they might do the same for you.
I have to start with Saul Bass. His groundbreaking work in the film industry was some of the first I saw that really sparked a passion in me for design. He is, of course, most noted for his innovation in film title sequences. Here is a list of some of my favorites...

The Man with the Golden Arm (1955)
      Vertigo (1958)
      Anatomy of a Murder (1958)
      North by Northwest (1959)
      Psycho (1960)
      Exod...   read more
