A Great Undertaking for Great Parks
Great Parks of Hamilton County was created in 1930 as the Hamilton County Park District near Cincinnati, Ohio with the purpose of preserving and protecting natural resources as well as providing outdoor recreation and education. Today, Great Parks consists of 17 public parks and 4 conservation areas and provides a wide range of events and programs available to the public.

Overwhelmed by Data.
Great Parks had just finished a re-brand when they contacted The Old State for a new website. This new site needed to accomplish a wide range of criteria, but the primary initiatives were to make the site beautiful to match the new branding and organize a massive amount of data including events, park info, maps, and activities into an easy-to-use and easy-to-navigate site. Additionally, the events calendar would need to be powered by a third party events and ticket system, so we were tasked with making the connection via Governor CMS.
Organizing and Beautifying.
Our first task was to gather all the pieces of data that needed to go into the new site. This included KML files for walking trails on the maps as well as figuring out how to connect with a third-party event and ticket system. Once that was done, our team of planners and designers were tasked with creating a new website and making sure that it was not only aesthetically beautiful, but also highly functional.
The Second Time Around.
With Great Parks' new site successfully launched, TOS turned its attention to designing interactive touchscreen interfaces that would be on display throughout the parks, and once the time came around, we were tasked with updating the website. With the latest version, we were able to take what we had done the first time and were, with analytics and user behaviors, able to improve even more upon usability and marketability of the site.
Achieving Great Things.
Both iterations of the Great Parks website have been immensely successful in not only elevating the Great Parks brand and aesthetics, but in making a potential park visitor's web experience as pleasant as a walk in the park. All of these things were achieved with careful planning and strategy and, even more importantly, a strong workign relationship with the client in which we are able to work hand-in-hand toward common and measurable goals.
